About founder stories
Each founder story covers a single product and is written by one of the people who founded it. Two co-founders can each tell the story of the same product in their own words. Founders with more than one product write a separate story for each of them.
Write or edit
Sign in and open Account > Founder story (/account/founder/story). The listing's profile screen in your account carries a 'Founder story for <product>' card too. The list shows every product you founded, with Not started, Draft or Published on N sites, and a button to continue.
Writing help
Six guided sections (How it started, The problem, What we built, The hard parts, Milestones, What's next) make up the story, each with a question to answer, in an editor headed 'Founder story: <product>'. Your draft is saved as you type. A story can carry up to 4 photos. The writing helper ('Help me word this') works only from your own words.
Publishing
To publish, finish your founder profile at /account/founder first - the screen shows your name and photo. Fill in at least 3 sections with 200 words or more in total; keep to 2 links at most and leave out prices and offers.
Who sees it
Each published story gets its own address, /launch/<listing>/story/<founder>. On your founder profile each product's story is listed; /stories lists them site-wide. As part of the full profile, the card is locked on free listings and opens when the listing becomes a paid launch. It also appears as a card on that product's listing.
After publishing
An older story covering several products remains your general founder text, and new product stories start from it. Edit any time and publish again - the change is live at once. If you shared a /founder/<name>/story link, it still works - it leads to the product story, or the founder profile for several.
Questions people ask
- My co-founder wrote a story. Can I write one too?
- Yes. Each founder of a product can write their own.
- Why can't I publish?
- Check that your founder profile at /account/founder is complete and the story meets the minimum sections and words.
- Why is the story card locked on my listing?
- It is part of the full profile, which is locked on a free listing until it becomes a paid launch.
